While EHRs improve access, coordination, and documentation, they also introduce new patient safety and liability concerns. Common risks include copy-and-paste errors, inaccurate template defaults, data overload, audit trail exposure, and alert fatigue. In fact, EHR-related malpractice cases are often high severity.

The takeaway? Technology doesn’t replace critical thinking. Smart implementation, strong documentation policies, staff training, and thoughtful workflow design are essential to protect patients and providers.
