Chiropractic Education

In the United States, doctors of chiropractic are licensed and hold advanced degrees in the area of physical health care. A minimum of six years of college study is required to become a doctor of chiropractic, focusing more on anatomy and physiology than their medical counterparts. Additional training is required for certification in specialized fields such as sports injuries, nutrition, or pediatrics and animal chiropractic. Currently there are 15 colleges that provide accredited chiropractic degree programs.

Although 30 hours of continuing education are required annually by the state, Colorado doctors of chiropractic average nearly 50 hours per year.

Since the first official chiropractic adjustment was performed on September 18, 1895, the practice of chiropractic has grown to over 50,000 doctors of chiropractic practicing in the United States alone. These doctors treat millions of patients with all types of health disorders. In Colorado, there are currently more than 1,600 practicing doctors of chiropractic.
